Superman / Batman : Apocalypse Blu-Ray review

On October 4, 2010, in Animated Movies, by ninjaman6

I wanted to review the animated movie, Superman/Batman: Apocalypse.

I don’t want to give an extensive plot of the movie however you can read it all over at Wikipedia,  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Superman/Batman:_Apocalypse

However I will briefly talk about the story of the movie. I will go more in-depth when it comes with what I considered the pros and cons of the movie. This movie is rated PG-13 and it was released on September 28, 2010.

The story of movie is basically taken from a storyline in comics written by Jeph Loeb during his run on the Superman/Batman comic book title. The story was basically an introducing of Kara Zor-El aka Supergirl. Somehow Supergirl lands on earth over in Gotham City. Batman eventually finds Supergirl and has to throw kryptonite at her in order for her to sleep so Batman and Superman could study who she is and how she has those powers. Darkseid finds out this new Kryptonian girl and wants to capture her for own evil deeds.  Clark shows Kara around Metropolis yet gets into a fight without knowing who it is until the last minute.  It turns out to Wonder Woman who came after Kara in which Batman had setup because he wanted Kara to get some proper training down in Paradise Island.  There is a big fight down in Paradise Island yet I won’t say what happens other then Darkseid finds a way to kidnap Supergirl. Darkseid does find a way to brainwash Kara when Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman and Big Brada traveled back to Apokolis. They go after Darkseid since she had been kidnapped. They battle some various opponents and over time someone of the four makes a deal with Darkseid in order to free Kara. There is a fight scene between Superman and Kara. Eventually Darkseid frees Kara. Once they all returned to Paradise Island, it appears everything is OK. Clark decides to take Kara to move in with his adoptive parents, Ma and Pa Kent over in Smallville, Kansas. Kara is a bit nervous to meet his folks yet once they open the door, Darkseid has been waiting for Superman. He said, I had let Kara go yet I didn’t say you could go home right now.  There is a big fight between Superman vs. Darkseid and Supergirl vs. Darkseid. Yes, these are two separate fights when one of the person is immobilize at the time. By the time the fight ends and Darkseid gets thrown out of the earth, Clark parents arrived and see their house and barn totally destroyed. They cannot say a word about it. There is a big speech at the end of the movie yet I won’t say what happens, you will just have to watch it yourself.

Here is what I liked the movie, the animation was top notch as usual. The voice cast as always continue to be up to notch. It was good to hear Kevin Konroy, Tim Daly, Susan Eisenberg who reprised her role as Wonder Woman and Ed Asner who reprised the role of Granny Goodness.  I thought Andre Braugher had brought an interesting twist as the role of Darkseid. The voice of Darkseid had been previously played by Michael Ironside on the TV animated shows such as Superman: The Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited.

Over time, it is interesting to see how these DC animated movies have been using different actors to play the voices such as  Superman, Wonder Woman,  Lois Lane, Carol Ferris, Batman, Martian Manhunter, Green Lantern and Flash. Of course, It is nice some of old familiar voices from the previous animated TV series to reprise their voices in some of the animated movies.

After watching this movie, I have to say it is one of the weakest animated movies that I have seen so far. The animated movies that I have been disappointed with so far are Superman: Doomsday, Justice League: New Frontier and this film.  I had been slightly disappointed with Batman: Gotham Knight yet with the Japanese animation for Batman, that movie has kept from me a totally bad movie.  I am also curious about the new animated DC movie, All-Star Superman in Spring 2011.

One of the biggest problems, I thought of this movie is that it did not feel long enough, I felt, there should have been more of an explanation about Kara, more in-depth about Darkseid and his warriors. Why was Wonder Woman brought into this situation more in-depth. At 78 minutes, I feel there is not enough time to explain everything. I wished these movies were slight longer, say for example, at least 90 minutes long. In other words, I felt the plot was lacking in so many areas which had made me not like this movie as much as I was hoping for in the beginning.

If you were to check out this movie, I will at least put it as a rental, not a buy. Some of you may like the movies, other will hate it and finally there will be a few who thought it was a mixed bag.

The new Kamen Rider series

On September 13, 2010, in TV series, by ninjaman6

Well it seems that Toei and Bandai has decided to start the new Kamen Rider series in September instead of January. From what I can tell and read from other fan sites that post information about is that because the company is trying to save money and thought it would be better to separate both the Super Sentai and Kamen Rider series to start at different times.  Anyway folks, check out the opening to the new Kamen Rider series called Kamen Rider OOO.

No More Mondays by Dan Miller – Audio CD review

On September 11, 2010, in Books, by ninjaman6

Happy Saturday everyone! I wanted to give you my review of the audio CD. I’m not an avid reader yet for someone, I am able to retain information better by listening then sometimes by reading the text.  However I am blogging about this audio CD, so go figure.

This book was assigned to us in the graduate school program I am in called the University of Alabama at Birmingham – Information and Engineering Management.

This book is telling about the changing of the work force. Companies are slowly no longer offering things such as health care, vacation time, 401k or any other perks provided by the companies. These traditional will continue to be around yet I am slowly seeing them going away.

Dan talks about how you as a person can become an entrepreneur. These are people are typically frustrated with their job, see no end in sight and that  with their current job.

Dan gives example of how various people who were in dead-end type of jobs and are not solo entrepreneur.

Dan talks about his past and how he grew up in a farm and is now a successful person as an entrepreneur and inspiring others to find their niche as an entrepreneur.

He makes people realize that we are all afraid and have been comfortable in typical work culture.

He says, people just need to get out of their comfort zone, take a risk and realize the potential for many small business are endless.

Dan seems very articulate and make the audio CD very enjoyable all of the way. I highly recommend that everyone to read this book who seems to want to see a change in their work lifestyle.

UK TV series called “Pulling” review

On September 1, 2010, in TV series, by ninjaman6

I’ve just finished watching this British TV series called Pulling. It had aired on BBC3 channel and was on from 2006 until 2009. The series was only on for 2 series and a TV special.  There is a total of 12 episodes and 1 TV special.  One thing that sucks is that TV special has not been released on DVD however Series 1 and 2 are out on DVD. You can order those DVDs on Amazon.com.

As most of you who know me personally, I really dig British TV shows and I’ve found another TV series.

The show stars these three ladies (Donna, Karen and Louise) who lives are so totally so messed up and their bad luck dating guys and also doing stupid stuff just like men.

Donna, who has decided to dump his fiancée, Karl, totally screws up his life for a short period of time and finally decided later on to move on with his life.  After Donna decides to dump Karl to try and live the single life, she realizes that she wishes to be back with Karl yet is in total denial for a very long time.

Louise works at a local restaurant, who is slightly large and hefty, yet always wants to have a man to have sex with her. She does not seem to the luck as her other two friends who seems to get sex a lot easier. However later on in the series, you can get to meet some interesting fellas she either tried to date or is dating at that time.

Karen, the school teacher, always seems to get drunk all the time.  She is the one who typically speaks her mind about everything yet she always seems to get drunk and have sex with some random guy almost every night.

Anyways, this is quite a hilarious and ridiculous TV show that nothing like Sex and City and Friends. I think everyone should check out this series.

Here are some clips from the TV show.

Hitler Moustache – Pulling – Comedy Greats – BBC sitcom

Drunk and single – Pulling – BBC

Karen quits teaching – Pulling – BBC

Sticky Outy Nipples – Pulling Special – BBC Threes

Mind the kitchen door – Pulling – BBC Comedy

Karen gatecrashes a date – Pulling – BBC

The video was uploaded on YouTube on August 07, 2010.

A tribute to the 700-episode franchise that never quits, from the firstseason to the last (so far). Power Rangers has returned to the hands of its original owner, and with them comes a brand new season in 2011. Bring it on.
